Man Charged With Stealing Meat From Local Walmart

CREATED Jul 8, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man has been arrested after police said he stole hundreds of dollars’ worth of meat from a local Walmart.

Metropolitan Nashville Police charged 44-year-old John Woodworth with two counts of theft following his arrest at the Charlotte Pike store on Monday.

A Davidson County affidavit said Woodworth was stopped while trying to leave the store with a shopping cart full of meat that he had not paid for. Police said he had gone to the meat department and requested several cases of ribs and steaks. He then loaded them into the cart before attempting to leave the store.

When officers got on the scene, they said Woodworth tried to run away. He was taken into custody in the parking lot.

Once in custody, the affidavit said Woodworth tried to give them a false name and social security number. Once officers learned of his real identity, they learned he had been banned from all Walmart property after an alleged theft from the Walmart in Dickson in 2013.

Detectives also said he admitted to another theft from the Walmart on Charlotte Pike on June 28. In that case, he allegedly stole several cases of ribs and fled the scene.

In total, police said the meat stolen totaled more than $1,600.

Woodworth was also charged with criminal trespass, criminal impersonation, and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Davidson County jail on $15,000 bond.
