1 Killed, 1 Injured In Head-On Crash In Dickson County
DICKSON, Tenn. – Criminal charges were pending against a driver who investigators said caused a head-on crash that killed a 22-year-old man in Dickson County on Monday night.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Jacob Akers was killed in the two-vehicle crash on Highway 49 at Bowker Road in Charlotte.
Just after 8 p.m., troopers said 34-year-old Johnny M. Dye was driving a 2000 Dodge truck westbound at a high rate of speed when he crossed the center line and struck Akers' 2005 Dodge Magnum head-on.
Akers' car spun around and stopped near the intersection with Antioch Road. Dye's truck then went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
The THP said both men were taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where Akers died. Dye was hurt, but his condition was not immediately known.
Investigators said both men were wearing their seatbelts. Charges were pending against Dye, according to the THP.
Akers graduated from Lipscomb University in Nashville in May.
