Cab Driver Pistol Whipped, Shot In Own Driveway

CREATED Jul 4, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Nashville cab driver was pistol whipped and shot in his driveway early Friday morning when he returned home from work.

“I thought it was some firecrackers,” neighbor Willard Kimbro said about what he later learned were gunshots.

Metropolitan Nashville Police said the man arrived home and parked in the driveway of his home in the 1900 block of Laurinda Drive around 3:35 a.m.

As he was getting out of the cab, two men approached him. Police said the victim was struck in the head with a handgun, and then one of them shot him in the leg.

“We (heard) someone knocking (at) the door just screaming,” a neighbor who asked that his identity be concealed explained. “(The victim was) calling one of our names but we didn't know who he was.”

The battered man made his way to his neighbor’s house looking for help. He grabbed a brush to hit the door. The neighbor said at the time he didn't know what was going on, or the severity of the situation. For his safety did not open the door.

“It's scary of course,” the neighbor said.

The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects fled in dark-colored Nissan vehicle, according to police.

It was unclear if the motive for the shooting was robbery or if anything was taken from the victim.

No suspects have been identified or arrested. Call Crime Stoppers at (615)74-CRIME with any information.
