Springfield Police Say Alleged Murderer Killed Himself
SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – Springfield Police said a man who committed suicide last year was the alleged shooter in a 2011 murder.
Springfield Police said 19-year-old Carricus Bell-Harris died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 27, 2013. Investigators believe he was the man who shot and killed 20-year-old Christopher Nash on August 20, 2011.
Nash was shot and killed outside a house on Main Street. Nash was a graduate of Greenbrier High School, and a well-known football player.
At the time, police were unsure of a motive and did not have any suspects in his murder.
Springfield Police said in the nearly three years since Nash's murder, they have spent thousands of hours trying to identify his killer, following up on leads and tips that led to Bell-Harris’ identification as the alleged shooter.
Police said the investigation into Nash's murder remains open and active. They believe others may have participated or contributed to the incident that led up to his shooting. Details about a motive were not immediately released.
