14-Year-Old Bicyclist Struck By Car In Summertown
SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. – A 14-year-old was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a car in Lawrence County.
Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the teenager was riding his bicycle on Commodore Circle Road in Summertown around 3:50 p.m., when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Buffalo Road.
An oncoming vehicle, being driven by 33-year-old Jacquelines Rosson, tried to swerve in an effort to miss the teen but neither could avoid the collision. The teen reportedly crashed into the right front fender area of the vehicle.
THP said the teen was not wearing a helmet. They also said the bicycle did not have properly working brakes.
The teen was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where his condition was not immediately known.
Charges were not expected to be filed against the driver.
