Vanderbilt Buys Historic Sony Building
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt University has purchased the historic Sony Music Entertainment Building, located not far from the school’s campus.
Officials with Vanderbilt confirmed the purchase Wednesday afternoon. They said the building, located at 1400 18th Ave. South, would be used to consolidate administrative staff from currently leased office space surrounding campus.
It would also serve as an academic space.
The historic building was first constructed in 1916 but was underwent renovations in 1999.
The university currently occupies 27,000 square feet of the building and Sony, along with its affiliates, occupies the rest.
Vandy said Sony will lease space in the building for a flexible period of time after closing.
