Nashville's Fireworks Celebration Ranked Second In Country

NASHVILLE, Tenn - The American Pyrotechnics Association has ranked Nashville's Fourth of July fireworks show as the second best in the country.

The organization, which represents the fireworks industry, based that ranking off of the amount of fireworks launched, and the complexity of the show.

Julie L. Heckman, the executive director of the organization, said Nashville's fireworks show is unique in that it is choreographed to live music by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

"It’s very challenging to have to synchronize and choreograph your display to live music," she said. "It’s much easier to have it programmed to fire to music which is already prerecorded."

Heckman said Nashville's show trails only the Macy's 4th of July Spectacular in New York City, which is ranked as the number one show in the country.

East Tennessee-based Pyro Shows has put on Nashville's fireworks show for many years.

Tate Wilson is crew leader of the 12 people putting the show together. Wilson said his crew has been working on-site since Thursday to get the 27-minute show ready.

The show will be longer and bigger than any other fireworks show in Nashville history.

It begins around 9:45 p.m. Friday

The celebration's main stage has been moved to 1st and Broadway while the old thermal plant site is under construction. Music starts at 6:45 p.m., featuring performances by Striking Matches, Ashley Monroe, and Billy Currington.
