Man Charged In Shoplifting Case Where Employee Pepper Sprayed
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man has been taken into custody in connection with a shoplifting case where an employee was pepper-sprayed.
Metropolitan Nashville Police arrested 29-year-old Chimayne Talley late Sunday night. Police said he was picked out of a photo lineup by witnesses in the case. He was charged with assault and theft.
Police said Talley and three others entered the Academy Sports on Gallatin Pike on the evening of Friday, June 13, and pepper sprayed an employee who tried to stop them from leaving the store with items they did not pay for.
Talley allegedly picked up the can of pepper spray that was for sale inside the store, while all four picked up several shopping bags from a checkout stand and then put clothing and shoes inside them.
When a loss prevention officer tried to stop them from leaving the store, police said Talley pepper sprayed him.
Arrest warrants were issued June 20 for Talley along with 18-year-old Kiara Butler. Butler was arrested that same day and charged with theft.
Both Butler and Talley have since bonded out of jail.
Police said Talley has previous theft and assault convictions.
The other two suspects have not yet been identified by police.
