28-Year-Old Man Drowns In Percy Priest Lake

CREATED Jun 30, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 28-year-old man drowned in Percy Priest Lake on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to Four Corners Marina in Antioch around 3:30 p.m. after witnesses reported a man had gone under and did not resurface.

Metropolitan Nashville Police said David Malone was with his fiance and several other people on Percy Priest Lake. The large group had three boats tied together.

Malone, who police said was not a strong swimmer, was in the water alongside a pontoon with a flotation device. They said he attempted to climb back onto the boat when he slipped and fell into the water. He never resurfaced.

Police said friends tried to help him, but could not locate Malone. He was not wearing a life vest.

His body was recovered from the water about two hours later.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, police said.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said it is the eighth boating-related death in 2014.
