CREATED Jun 26, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A decommissioned Metro Police Lieutenant resigned Thursday, following a Davidson County Grand Jury indictment charging him with rape.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said Curtis Watkins’s resignation will become effective after he serves a 29 day suspension. He is accused of having non-consensual sex with a woman with whom he had a six year romantic relationship.

The 36-year-old Watkins was arrested on June 13 on a three-count rape indictment.

The 40-year-old alleged victim contacted the department on the night of January 26 accusing him of having non-consensual sex with her on three occasions during the time they were seeing each other. Police said the alleged incidents occurred once in 2012 and twice in 2013.

Watkins is a 15-year police department veteran who was promoted to sergeant in 2008 and lieutenant in 2013. He had no prior disciplinary infractions.

He was released on $100,000 bond.
