3 Men Indicted In Connection With Sparta Homicide

CREATED Jun 25, 2014

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Three men have been indicted in connection with a homicide in White County earlier this year.

Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Joe Daniel Honaker, Jr., age 31, Jared Dewayne Holmes, age 27, and Bart Kirby, age 33, were indicted Wednesday in the death of 36-year-old John Howard Shoemaker.

Shoemaker was found dead on April 10 in a wooded area behind a bar called My Place in Sparta. An autopsy determined Shoemaker died as a result of multiple blunt force trauma.

A White County Grand Jury returned indictments for all three men, charging each with one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of Especially Aggravated Assault.

Holmes was taken into custody at his place of employment and Kirby was arrested at his home. Honaker was already being held in the White County Jail on an unrelated Violation of Probation charge.

All three have been booked into the White County Jail on $500,000 bond.
