RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – Criminal charges were pending in a head-on crash that killed a 33-year-old Murfreesboro man in Rutherford County on Wednesday morning.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Christian Morales Escamilla was killed in the two vehicle crash in the 4200 block of Lascassas Pike, near Shady Lane.

Just before 6:30 a.m., a Mitsubishi traveling west on Lascassas Pike crossed the double yellow lines, and struck an eastbound Ford Ranger that had pulled over to the shoulder to avoid the Mitsubishi.

Morales died at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as 31-year-old Lacey L. Fann of Murfreesboro, was injured and taken to the hospital.

Investigators said criminal charges were pending against Fann as she was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. Tests were pending to determined whether alcohol was involved.
