MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A 65-year-old man from Wisconsin has been charged with raping a young girl in Murfreesboro nearly 10 years ago.
Gary Tuschl was indicted on one count of rape of a child by the June 2014 grand jury in Rutherford County.
A report from the Murfreesboro Police Department said the alleged victim, who is now a teenager, recently came forward and was interviewed by police in March, following a referral from the Department of Children’s Services.
The victim told police that Tuschl had molested her while he was visiting Murfreesboro around Christmas in 2005. Detectives in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, subsequently interviewed Tuschl, who allegedly confessed to the crime.
Based on recent interviews with the victim, police believe Tuschl first had sexual contact with the girl when she was 5 years old. She described to police an incident at a well-known amusement park, and another sexual assault during a Christmas holiday.
It was unclear how the victim and Tuschl knew each other.
After his indictment, he was taken into custody by authorities in Wisconsin. He was then brought to Murfreesboro, where he was served with the indictment. He was booked into the Rutherford County Jail on Monday with a $100,000 bond.
A court hearing was set for July 14.
