Church Destroyed By Fire Rebuilds

CREATED Jun 22, 2014
FAIRVIEW, Tenn. - A small church in Williamson County destroyed by a devastating fire in July of 2012 has rebuilt.

On Sunday close to 100 parishioners met for the first time inside the newly constructed Pewitt's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. A homecoming that Pastor Chris Alonso says is "a miracle."

"We found out after the fire that the church's insurance had been canceled years ago so we had to raise all the money to build this building," he explained on Sunday.

Pastor Alonso estimates it cost close to $165,000 to rebuild the church.

"People would say “Why would God let that happen?” and we aren’t require to understand just to accept that he knows what he’s doing," he added.

Inside the church Sunday, faithful congregation members sang and rejoiced in the opening of their new place of worship, dedicating the new building in a special ceremony.

"It’s definitely about more than this building, it’s about the people in the building," church member Chris Whidby said.

The original church building was constructed in 1939.
