BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Two teenagers were seriously hurt in a crash in Williamson County after a vehicle pursuit with authorities. Police said the driver was only 15 years old.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. Friday. Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said officers from the Brentwood Police Department were chasing the SUV when they lost visual contact.

Moments later they found the vehicle, but it had crashed into a telephone pole. The SUV sustained heavy significant damage. The force of the impact split the front-end from passenger compartment, and ripped at least one of the axels and wheels from the vehicle.

The 15-year-old driver and his 16-year-old female passenger were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The conditions and identities of the teens have not been released. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

It was unknown why officers were originally trying to pull over the vehicle.

Police did not say if they believed alcohol contributed to the crash.
