NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Officers were called out to an apartment complex in west Nashville after reports that a suspect fired shots and hit a neighbor.

The incident began before 9 p.m. Friday when the suspect apparently tried to break into his girlfriend’s apartment on Alabama Avenue. She told police the man broke a window to get inside.

A neighbor heard the commotion and tried to help. During the scuffle, the neighbor was hit in the head with some kind of blunt object.

Witnesses told police the suspect pulled out a gun and fired shots in the air.

By the time officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department arrived on the scene, the suspect had run into his girlfriend’s apartment and closed the door.

Officers believed the man was barricaded inside, but later discovered he had escaped out the back – possibly through a window.

They were searching the area for the man.

The neighbor who tried to help was transported to the hospital to be treated. His exact condition was unknown.
