Second Arrest Made In Attempted Armed Robbery

CREATED Jun 20, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police have made a second arrest in connection with the attempted armed robbery of a woman outside an east Nashville apartment complex. The victim’s brother helped foil the robbery.

Metropolitan Nashville Police arrested 20-year-old Maurice Williams, Jr. on Thursday. He was charged with attempted aggravated robbery.

A Davidson County affidavit said witnesses told police that Williams actually provided the gun to the 14-year-old boy who allegedly tried to rob the woman outside an apartment on S. 4th Street around 1:50 a.m. Thursday.

The witness said Williams had been carrying the gun, showed it to the teen and another suspect, and even let one of them fire it just moments before the attempted robbery.

During the attempted robbery, police said the 14-year-old, Williams, and one other person approached the woman who was sitting on her porch. When the 14-year-old allegedly pulled out the gun and demanded the woman’s valuables, the victim's brother jumped out of a nearby car and jumped into help.

The brother tackled the boy, and got the gun away from him. During the scuffle, the gun discharged and the 14-year-old was grazed by a bullet on his hand.

All three suspects fled the scene, but the 14-year-old was arrested a block away. He was taken to Skyline Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The 14-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and attempted aggravated robbery.

Williams was arrested later in the day after he was identified in a lineup.

His bond was set at $100,000. No word yet if the third person involved has been arrested.
