THP Trooper On Leave Following Arrest On Rape, Assault Charges
HOHENWALD, Tenn. - A Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper has been placed on leave following his arrest over the weekend in Lewis County.
On Saturday, Hohenwald Police charged William Hobbs with felony rape and misdemeanor domestic assault. Details about what led up to the charges were not immediately released, but the criminal investigation was ongoing.
The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security placed him on discretionary leave immediately after learning of his arrest.
The department’s Inspectional Services Bureau has also opened an internal investigation into possible violations of Tennessee Highway Patrol policies and procedures. All departmental equipment including weapons, badges and commission card were secured pending the investigations.
The 48-year-old is assigned to the THP Lawrenceburg District. He has been a state trooper since January 2, 2004.
He was freed on $5,000 bond.
