Bodies Of 2 Teen Swimmers Recovered At Cummins Falls State Park
JACKSON COUNTY, Tenn. - The bodies of two 13-year-old boys have been recovered at Cummins Falls State Park in Jackson County, according to Kelly Brockman,Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
The search resumed on Saturday morning after rescue crews including dive teams and emergency workers from surrounding counties spent much of Friday evening searching for the swimmers.
The boys' identities have not yet been released.
Brockman said more than 30 children were at the park as part of Great Outdoors University. The boys went with Backfield in Motion, a nonprofit organization in Nashville that combines academics and athletics to inspire inner city boys to reach their maximum potential, according to its website.
Brockman said other children were swimming at the bottom of the falls during the incident.
Cummins Falls State park is a popular place for swimmers and has been listed as one of the ten best swimming holes in the United States by Travel& Leisure magazine.
No word yet on when the park will reopen.
