MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Memphis police lieutenant says a triple-murder suspect told him he began shooting at his girlfriend's father out of fear after the man attacked him.

Lt. Darren Goods testified Thursday in the capital trial of 31-year-old Sedrick Clayton. Clayton is charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend, 23-year-old Pashea Fisher, and her parents in their home on Jan. 19, 2012.

Authorities say Clayton got into an argument with Fisher, and he shot her parents in the bedroom of her parents' house before shooting her in the head. Police say Clayton then left with his 4-year-old daughter, who was in the house during the shootings, before turning himself in to police.

Goods testified that the argument began after Fisher told Clayton she had been with another man.
