Suspect Charged With Shooting At Beer Truck
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A man has been taken into custody after deputies said he fired a shotgun at a beer truck parked outside a convenience store in Rutherford County.
The shooting happened Friday as two Ajax Turner employees were outside the Kountry Korner Market at 7604 Old Nashville Highway in Murfreesboro.
Officials with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said 22-year-old Matthew Payton Sparks from Smyrna walked up to the two men with a shotgun.
It was not clear if Sparks exchanged words with the other men, but as he drove away investigators said he fired a shot at the truck.
“He fired a shot from the shotgun that hit the side of the trailer,” said Deputy Michael Moody.
The other men were not injured.
A short time later, officers from the Smyrna Police Department pulled Sparks over and arrested him for driving under the influence. After the arrest it was determined he was also the suspect in the shooting.
Sparks was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and vandalism of the truck. He was being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
A hearing was scheduled for June 25.
