Former Clarksville Teen Accused Of Killing Mass. Teacher Investigated In Assault
BOSTON (AP) - Authorities are investigating an alleged assault on a female state youth worker by the 16-year-old boy charged with raping and killing his math teacher last year.
Essex County Sheriff’s spokesman Maurice Pratt said Philip Chism was taken to Boston Medical Center after the incident Monday at the Department of Youth Services facility in Boston where he was held. Pratt said an Essex County sheriff’s security detail is guarding Chism and state police are investigating.
The Suffolk district attorney’s spokesman Jake Wark confirmed an assault at the facility is being investigated. Wark said the woman declined medical treatment.
The Department of Youth Services said it’s working with law enforcement and will review its security.
Chism has pleaded not guilty to robbing, raping and killing 24-year-old Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer last October. He has been held without bond.
Chism and his family previously lived in Clarksville before moving to Massachusetts.
