CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A Clarksville pit bull owner facing criminal charges after her dog killed a neighbor's pet is finally speaking out.

"There's always two sides to a story," said Kovin Ellington.

She conceded that her pit bull Ariel attacked and Killed Jonah, a Jack Russell mix, in her neighbor's yard. That neighbor filed a warrant and Ellington has been charged with two criminal counts for allowing her dog to run at large.

But Ellington said Ariel recently had puppies and is not a vicious dog. She and her lawyer Fletcher Long said Ariel may have attacked the Jack Russell out of a perceived threat to the pups.

The dogs were separated by a fence. It's not clear if Ariel crawled under or jumped over the fence.

"It was a horrible accident. I tried to take care of the situation the best I could. I do care about what happened and I do apologize," said Ellington.

She does plan to fight the criminal misdemeanor charges in court. She insisted Ariel does not roam freely in the neighborhood.

Ellington paid the vet bills for the neighbor's dog and has now also installed a new security fence.

County animal control has allowed Ellington to keep Ariel.
