Woman Found Injured, Man Found Dead Hours After Motorcycle Crash

CREATED May 29, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One person was killed and another injured after the motorcycle they were riding on crashed in North Nashville. The deceased victim was not discovered until hours later.

Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department first responded to the crash scene on Moormans Arms Road Wednesday at 6:40 a.m. A passerby found a woman on the side of the road who was injured. She was bleeding and appeared to be badly beaten. Officials said she was unable to tell emergency response crews what had happened to her.

The woman was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition. She was identified as 23-year-old Sharita Johnson.

Investigators went back out to the scene early Wednesday afternoon to look for clues into what happened to Johnson. It was then that they discovered a 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle down the embankment in very think brush.

After an examination of the motorcycle, police discovered the body of 25-year-old Corey Hockett.

Officials determined the motorcycle was coming out of a curve when it ran off the left side of the roadway and traveled down the embankment. Investigators were not sure when the crash actually happened.

Police said Johnson's injuries were consistent with a motorcycle crash. They planned to talk to her about what happened when her medical condition improved.
