Grand Jury To Hear Case Against Man Accused Of Killing Stepdaughter
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A grand jury will now hear the case against a Fort Campbell soldier accused of killing his one-year-old step-daughter.
According to the Leaf Chronicle, Kyle Batiz was in court Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing. The judge set his bond at $2-million.
Clarksville Police arrested the 21-year-old on Thursday, May 15, after officers responded to an apartment on Fort Campbell Blvd. and found him performing CPR on his stepdaughter Winter Denny.
According to an arrest warrant, Batiz told police he was alone watching the girl that evening and had gotten angry. The warrant said he struck the girl forcefully in the abdomen twice and performed "a modified Heimlich-type thrusting maneuver" on her.
The girl died at a hospital. The warrant said Batiz told police his actions may have resulted in her death.
