CREATED May 28, 2014

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A driver in Franklin meant to stop, but instead wound up plowing into a CVS pharmacy in Williamson County.

Officials with the Franklin Police Department said an 82-year-old woman mistook the gas pedal for the brakes and the car went inside the pharmacy on Farrier Lane at Hillsboro Road around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The car hit a 49-year-old worker inside the building. The worker was sent to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police said the situation could have been much worse.

“Right away we assumed the very worst, being that it was a CVS on a weekday when it was open and with the car reported to be through the building,” said Charles Warner, spokesperson for the Franklin Police Department. “We were relieved when we got here to learn there was only one person that was actually injured from the debris from the crash itself.”

The driver of the car was not hurt in the crash, but was take to the hospital to be examined.

Store officials said the CVS would be closed for a while, but the drive-through would remain open.
