'War Journals' Draws Veterans On Memorial Day Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn -
An exhibit at the Frist Center downtown has a special meaning on this Memorial Day weekend.

"War Journals" by Steve Mumford is on display for two more weeks at the Frist.

It uses water color paintings to depict life in a war zone from Iraq to Afghanistan. It is bringing in plenty of veterans and active duty members to see the exhibit.

Some called it therapeutic.

"The nature of PTSD is such that people don't talk about what they see and these works in essence give people permission to talk," said Ellen Jones Pryor with the Frist Center. "We've had some cases where soldiers who have not been able to recall their time in the Middle East had their memories opened up for their family and friends."

Members of the military get free entry to the Frist beginning Monday through Labor Day.

The War Journals exhibit runs through June 8.
