Daughter Of Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Creates Fundraiser In His Honor

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – This Memorial Day, as thousands pay tribute to our fallen servicemen and women, a family in Franklin will be thinking about Master Sergeant Trey Ponder - a dad and husband who died in Afghanistan in 2005.
On Saturday, Trey's daughter Samantha Ponder planned a special tribute to remember him.
Samantha organized a 5K run in Franklin, dedicated to raising money to help children who've lost their parents in the War on Terror.
The money raised in registration fees goes to help send children to Snowball Express, a yearly gathering of kids who share the painful experience of losing a mom or dad in war.
With the money Samantha helped raise, she estimated they'll be able to send up to 80 kids to the Snowball Express weekend next year.
“Today was a celebration of my dad and many other people’s parents and lost loved ones,” Samantha said.
Samantha said the 5K run was such a success this year, they're already planning on holding another one next year.Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
