Exhibit Of Daily Life Among Troops Draws Military

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An exhibit at Nashville's Frist Center for the Visual Arts is attracting many veterans and active-duty troops, especially from nearby Fort Campbell.

Steve Mumford's "War Journals" is composed mainly of small paintings and drawings depicting daily life among American troops during the artist's eight trips to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Veterans support group Soldiers and Families Embraced has helped train docents and volunteers at the Frist to help veterans who have an emotional reaction to the exhibit. And SAFE is encouraging families to see "War Journals" as a way to begin conversations, especially between veterans and their non-veteran spouses.

SAFE Director Jodi McCullah said that asking a spouse about a single image can be less overwhelming than asking about his or her war experiences as a whole.
