Vets Place Wreaths At War Memorial Plaza To Honor Fallen Comrades
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Veterans across Middle Tennessee gathered Saturday morning to honor their fallen military comrades.
Although Memorial Day has always been commemorated on the final Monday in May, many groups took the opportunity to remember the nation’s fallen two days early. The organization, AMVETS, laid wreaths at War Memorial Plaza, not far from the steps of the State Capitol.
The Memorial is also home to the Vietnam Veteran Memorial.
"It's very important, I think, that people realize the price that's paid for the protection of our freedoms and for our communities and to take this day - and every day - to remember that," said U.S. Marine Travis McVey.
Saturday was just the first of three services sponsored by AMVETS this Memorial Day weekend. On Sunday, there will be a reading of names of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice this past year.
A ceremony will also be held Monday at the National Cemetery in Madison.
