Crews Complete Filling Sinkhole On APSU Football Field

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Crews have completed filling the massive sinkhole that opened up on Austin Peay State University’s football field.

Construction crews began packing the final loads of gravel Wednesday, after workers found stable ground beneath the 40-foot deep hole.

The sinkhole was first discovered in March by construction crews working on renovations for Governors Stadium. It was only a few feet across at first, but crews found unstable soil conditions once they began work to repair it. Eventually, they had to excavate the hole more than 40 feet.

Officials said the sinkhole repair will not delay the $19-million renovation project. It's expected to complete by the Governors' football home opener on September 13.

Crews have now begun working to remove the turf and track from the field in preparation for the next phases of construction for the stadium project.
