Georgia Man Killed In Tractor Trailer Crash On I-24W In Marion County
MARION COUNTY, Tenn. – A Georgia man was killed early Friday morning when his tractor trailer slammed into the back of another tractor trailer in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 in southeast Tennessee.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said 36-year-old Steven Deon Perkins, of Jonesboro, Georgia, was killed in the crash that happened just before 1 a.m. at mile marker 151 in Marion County, west of Chattanooga.
Investigators said Perkins was driving a tractor trailer when he came upon another tractor trailer that was driving at a reduced speed. Perkins was unable to stop in time and his truck struck the other from behind.
Perkins, who investigators said was not wearing a seatbelt, died on impact.
The driver and passenger in the other tractor trailer also suffered injuries, but their conditions were unknown.
The THP said criminal charges and citations were pending against the surviving driver, identified as 21-year-old Ladarrius Montez Echoles of Houston, Mississippi, based on the results of the investigation.
The interstate was blocked for hours, but has since reopened to traffic.
