NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A security guard was injured in a shooting at an Edgehill apartment complex overnight.
The guard told officers with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department he had been patrolling the premises of The Park of Hillside apartments on Hillside Avenue in the Edgehill area when he noticed two men acting suspicious outside one of the buildings around midnight.
He allegedly confronted the men, and one of them pulled out a gun and shot the security guard. He returned fire, but he told police he was not sure if he actually hit either of the men.
The gunmen then fled the scene.
The guard in his 50s, who works for the Tennessee Protection Agency, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
There were two other guards working at the apartments at the time of the shooting, but neither of them witnessed the shooting.
Around the same time, a man was brought to Vanderbilt with a gunshot wound to the chest. He told officers he was shot on South 8th Street in east Nashville, but police haven't confirmed that yet. His condition was unknown.
The hospital was briefly put on lockdown after the man arrived.
Police have not said whether the man shot in the chest could be one of the two men who shot the security guard, but they were investigating the possibility and trying to determine if the shootings were related.
The investigation was ongoing.
