Woman Injured When Struck By Murfreesboro Police Cruiser

CREATED May 22, 2014
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A Nashville woman was struck by a police cruiser in Murfreesboro on Wednesday night.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 54-year-old Virginia Bissinger was crossing Highway 96 near Market Place around 10:10 p.m. when she walked in front of a Murfreesboro Police car driven by Officer Darrlyn Sanders.

Bissinger was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was said to be in serious but stable condition on Thursday morning.

Investigators said Bissinger was in a dimly lit area and not in a marked crosswalk when she was struck, and Officer Sanders could not avoid hitting her.

Officer Sanders was wearing his seatbelt, and was not hurt.

No charges have been filed at present.
