Nashville Mayor Receives Honorary Degree
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Mayor Karl Dean has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the Watkins College of Art, Design and Film.
Mayor Dean, who is a lawyer by trade, received his Doctorate in Fine Arts. He was also the commencement speaker at Saturday’s graduation, where he stressed the importance of Nashville remaining a desirable place for creative people.
“That's the type of energy that leads to entrepreneurs, that leads to further investments and it's just a good thing for a city and Nashville's blessed to have a lot of it,” he said. “We need to protect that and we need to develop it even more.”
Dean strongly emphasized the importance of a thriving art community.
