CREATED May 19, 2014
BAXTER, Tenn. – A man was allegedly shot and killed by his father in a domestic dispute early Saturday morning in Putnam County.

Officials with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said 26-year-old William Brock was fatally shot by his 67-year-old father, Ralph. Shots were fired around 1 a.m. Saturday in the Southern Hills golf course community on Ben Jared Road in Baxter.

William Brock was taken to Cookeville Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe there was an altercation between William Brock and his father that led up to the shooting.

So far, charges have not been filed in the shooting, but investigators have been working closely with the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and will be submitting their findings to them when the investigation has been completed.

NewsChannel 5 learned that Will Brock worked at the golf course, not far from the family’s home. He helped maintain the grounds, including keeping the golf carts in order and picking up stray balls.

He was at work Friday and was scheduled to return to work Saturday morning. The staff was shocked to learn about what happened.

“I just can't believe he's gone. (He) was so young and bubbly really,” golf club ranger Terry Griffin said. “He got along with everybody. And he did his job well…we're going to miss him.”
