In Kentucky Senate Race, Primaries Preview November
FRANKLIN, Ky. (AP) - With three days until Tuesday's primary launches one of the most-watched Senate races in the country, Kentucky's Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes and Sen. Mitch McConnell campaigned Saturday in the same small town.
Democrat Grimes and Republican McConnell both talked about change, but their messages were decidedly different. Grimes would like Kentucky to change the senator who's represented the state for 30 years. McConnell would like to stay in the Senate, but change jobs, from minority leader to majority leader. That would happen if the GOP picks up six seats in November.
Grimes and McConnell have big leads over their primary opponents. Tuesday's election gives both campaigns a chance to test their multimillion dollar, get-out-the-vote operations. Both campaigns view the primary as a dress rehearsal for November's general election.
