NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Apartment dwellers in the Southeast Nashville area have been asking for a place to let their dogs roam free for years and now, that wish will finally come true.

The area has been buzzing about the new William A. Pitts Dog Park. Metro Council Member Davette Blalock said her phone has been ringing off the hook.

"I get calls every day asking when is the dog park opening, so I'm so glad to say it's going open this Saturday," she said.

Blalock said it's been in the works for at least two years.

"It's taken a lot of different council people working with it; the Parks Department, the Mayor’s Department. So it takes a lot to do something, even as small as a dog park," she said.

It’s said to be the first of its kind in the 37211 zip code.

"We're really looking to accommodate the people that live here and give them what they want and need,” said Blalock.

Pet owners, like Joe Curet, have three little ones.

"No one was ever out here, so it's the best use for space," he said. "I couldn't be happier because I live three minutes from here.

Curet also couldn't be more excited to give his best friends some freedom.

"We have a huge yard but no fence, so we can let them out but it's always with the leash," he said.

Dogs should never get bored at this place. In all, it's said to be five acres of pure fun.

"We have boulders, large trees, lots of green space, walkways and just a large, large area where dogs can run and be off the leash," said Blalock.

Plus, it features a four acre, off the leash fenced in walking trail - a first of its kind in Nashville.

The grand opening ceremony has been slated to kick off this Saturday at noon at the park on Tusculum Road.
