MADISON, Tenn. – A Madison family found their dog shot to death on their front porch on Thursday morning.
Officials said the 9 and a half-year-old Labrador Retriever named "Scooby" was found shot in the head at the family's home on Neelys Bend Road.
Mayra Encalada said she still can't believe what her father found this morning.
“When he saw, he saw him dead. My mom said he started crying because the dog has been with us for nine years and a half,” she said.
Police believe he was shot somewhere else, and his body was placed on the family's porch.
"It makes us scared. I have a kid myself and I come visit my mom and I don't want anything to happen to my child,” she said.
Encalada said her mother, Elvia, who doesn't speak English, heard Scooby and their other two dogs barking last night, but didn't look out to see what was wrong.
The dog's remains were picked up and sent to the state laboratory in an attempt to hopefully get answers.
