FORT CAMPBELL, KY. – On a day set aside to honor the sacrifices military spouses make, some ladies enjoyed a special event at Fort Campbell.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day has been recognized nationwide every year. However, Fort Campbell turned it into three days of events for spouses stationed at the post.
Over the course of the week, women participated in seminars, cooking demonstrations, and a spa day.
Women lined up outside of the Family Resource Center for hours for a chance to take part in manicures, massages, snacks and door prize drawings.
Shawne Lee Rivas attended the event for the first time, and said she was impressed by the efforts.
“It’s overwhelming,” said Rivas. “You know I didn’t expect this. It’s crazy.”
For members of the Morale Welfare and Recreation Department (MWR) at Fort Campbell, the event is a perfect way to honor women who make sacrifices every day.
“We always tell our spouses thank you,” said Tara Goodson, Marketing Coordinator for MWR. “This is a way to show we appreciate them by giving everything this week for free.”
The popular spa day event is in its 6th year.
“There are so many spouses who don’t take time to pamper themselves,” said Goodson. “This is a great opportunity to do that.”
The first Military Spouse Appreciation day was recognized in 1984. Ever since, the day has been the Friday before Mother’s Day.Email: email@example.com
