TBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In Rutherford County

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Rutherford County.

Officials with the TBI said Rutherford County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene of an alleged domestic dispute at a home on West Jefferson Pike near Murfreesboro late Tuesday night.

A woman reportedly called police and said her 38-year-old husband had left their home with a shotgun after an argument. She was not harmed in the incident.

When deputies arrived on the scene, the TBI said they discovered the man hiding in the woods. He reportedly pointed a gun at the deputies, and one of the deputies fired a shot.

The man was struck in the torso. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was said to be in critical condition.

According to officials with Rutherford County, the officer has not been placed on leave.

No names have been released. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
