2 Charged In Abuse, Assault Of 2-Year-Old Child
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two people have been charged in connection with the abuse and assault of a two-year-old child in Warren County, Kentucky.
Wednesday morning, 19-year-old Austin M. Searles was arrested after the child was hospitalized with head trauma. Bowling Green Police charged Searles with assault and criminal abuse.
The child’s mother, 24-year-old Penny L. Hicks, was later arrested in connection with the alleged incident. Hicks has been charged with Criminal Abuse and Assault first degree by complicity, which implied she was aware of the abuse and took no action.
Around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call from the Medical Center at Bowling Green reporting a child with head trauma.
The child's custodian told police that the child’s injuries were accidental, but police determined that statement was untrue.
The child was later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, and was listed in critical condition.
Searles and Hicks were booked into the Warren County Regional Jail. It was unclear of Searles' relationship to the alleged victim.
