Driver Dies Following Head-On Crash In Mt. Juliet

CREATED May 13, 2014

MT. JULIET, Tenn. - A driver has passed away from his injuries following a head-on crash in Mt. Juliet last week.

Mt. Juliet Police said 22-year-old Justin Odom of Lebanon passed away overnight Monday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Odom was injured in the three vehicle crash on Lebanon Road near the Mt. Juliet Little League ball fields that happened around 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6.

Police said Odom was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound when he lost control and struck a westbound 2013 Ford Explorer head-on. A 2006 Mazda M3 then rear-ended the Ford Explorer following the crash.

Odom was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt, where he succumbed to his injuries early Monday. The driver and the passenger of the Explorer, Timothy and Tracie Cole, ages 49 and 43 of Old Hickory, were taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt, where they were said to be in critical condition.

A witness told police that the pickup truck fishtailed prior to hitting the Explorer. Police said their initial investigation found that Odom's first contributing action was failure to keep in the proper lane.

Lebanon Road was closed for nearly two hours while the crash was being investigated by Mt. Juliet Police Department’s Accident Reconstructionist.
