Police Search For Homicide Suspect In Donelson

CREATED May 6, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro Police searched for a homicide suspect in the Donelson area on Monday.

Police got a tip that 25-year-old Rodrecus Smith may have been staying at a unit at the Terrace Park Townhomes on Elm Hill Pike. Officers along with aviation were brought out to search for him after he ran into the wooded area behind the complex Monday morning, and Child Care USA Learning Center was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Officers hope Smith will be in custody soon.

"They are in communication with officers across this area as to what they are seeing, also we are getting calls from the public, which is great and we are sending officers to those locations," said Metro Police spokesperson Kris Mumford.

Smith is wanted for the robbery and murder in the October 30, 2013 shooting death of 35-year-old Mario McKnight.

McKnight was killed while riding in the rear of a dry cleaning van in the vicinity of 12th Avenue South & Argyle Avenue. It is believed that he and the van's driver were trying to flee a street robbery related to a nearby dice game.

Smith is also wanted for felony probation violation, domestic assault, vandalism and failure to appear in court on charges of gun possession by a convicted felon, drug possession and resisting arrest. The probation violation stems from Smith's convictions in 2012 on two counts of aggravated assault, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of vehicle theft. He received three six-year sentences and one two-year sentence, most of which were probated.

Last month, a Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of 22-year-old Martez Parham, who was wanted for being an accessory after the fact in McKnight’s death.

Smith is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him was asked call Metro Police at (615)862-8600.
