Man Taken Into Custody After I-40 Standoff
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A man was taken into custody Saturday evening, after a 10 hour standoff near Interstate 40.
WVLT reported the man barricaded himself inside his home on Wheeler Street in Knoxville around 9 a.m. He apparently fired shots then retreated back into his home.
Officials with the Knoxville Police Department said he was upset about personal issues but the suspect apparently would not elaborate.
Both directions of I-40 were closed between Middlebrook Pike and Asheville Highway at the peak of the incident. Eastbound traffic reopened just before noon.
Interstate 40 westbound reopened nearly 10 hours later, around 7:30 p.m.
