Fish And Wildlife Tables Proposed Refuge Expansion

Fish And Wildlife Tables Proposed Refuge Expansion

CREATED May 1, 2014

RIPLEY, Tenn. (AP) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has tabled a proposed expansion of the Chickasaw and Lower Hatchie National Wildlife Refuges in West Tennessee.

In a news release announcing the change, Southeast Regional Chief of the National Wildlife Refuge System David Viker says that after careful consideration, the agency will focus on managing the habitat it already has.

The proposal would have enabled the restoration of bottomland hardwoods in the area. It also would have helped connect several state and federal conservation areas together over time, expanding activities like hunting, fishing, and wildlife photography and viewing.
