8 Apply For Appeals Court Vacancy In West Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Eight candidates have applied to fill an upcoming vacancy on the state Court of Appeals caused by the Governor Bill Haslam's appointment of Judge Holly Kirby to the state Supreme Court.

Kirby's appointment to the state's highest court is effective September 1.

All but one of the candidates, Madison County attorney Steven Wayne Maroney, are from Shelby County. They include Chancellor Kenny Armstrong, Circuit Judge Robert Lawson Childers and attorneys Frank S. Cantrell, Oscar C. Carr III, Stephen D. Crawley, Brandy Suzanne Parrish and Stacie S. Winkler.

The Governor's Commission for Judicial Appointments is scheduled to interview the applicants on May 16 in Memphis and will present Haslam with three finalists to choose from.
