Riverdale High School Assistant Charged With Misconduct
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – An educational assistant for Rutherford County Schools has been suspended following allegations of misconduct.
Officials with Rutherford County Schools said 27-year-old Maurice C. O'Neal has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation involving at least one student. He has been charged with official misconduct, extortion and assault.
O’Neal was an educational assistant at Riverdale High School.
Details of the allegations have not yet been released.
O’Neal has been employed with the school system since September of 2012 and previously served as a custodian at Eagleville School. He was also a summer custodian at Christiana Elementary School and an education assistant at LaVergne High School.
School officials said he passed all background checks prior to employment and received favorable recommendations from past supervisors.
He has been booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on $35,000 bond. A court date has been set for May 29.
