Contract Painter Accused Of Stealing From Seniors

CREATED Apr 18, 2014

JACKSON, Tenn. – A contract painter has been accused of stealing from a retirement home in Madison County.

Officials with the Jackson Police Department said 30-year-old Stephen Bragg has been arrested and is expected to be charged with felony theft and aggravated burglary.

Bragg was hired to complete interior painting at Jackson Meadow Independent Senior Living Community in Jackson, after a fire caused damage inside the facility on March 4.

Residents were forced to move to a temporary home while construction crews worked to renovate the damaged building. When they returned in early April, police said many residents reported stolen cash and property.

Investigators said more than $10,000 worth of property was stolen over the course of a month.

Bragg has been in the Madison County Jail since April 14 for an unrelated burglary. He is expected to be formally arraigned Monday at 8 a.m.
