4 Arrested In Counterfeit Credit Card Scheme
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro Police arrested four people for buying thousands of dollars in gift cards using counterfeit credit cards at two Nashville Walmart stores.
On Monday night, Metro detectives were called to the Red Roof Inn at 4271 Sidco Drive after receiving a tip that four people at the hotel were engaging in illegal activity.
Detectives witnessed 32-year-old Olakunle Ijiti, 25-year-old Samuel Cole, 24-year-old Dorishatu Turay and 26-year-old Olayinka Bangura get into a white BMW and drive to two Walmart locations on Edmonson Pike and Nolensville Road.
While the four were at the store, police said they used counterfeit credit and debit cards encoded with stolen numbers to purchase $2,800 worth of gift cards.
Police searched their car and hotel room and found more than 100 gift cards, two computers, a device used to encode credit cards, more than $32,000 in blank money orders and numerous transaction receipts.
Cole and Ijiti apparently traveled to Nashville from Maryland while Turay and Bangura arrived from Miami.
Each of the four suspects were arrested and charged with one count of criminal simulation and freed on $5,000 bond. Additional charges were likely.
